A day in the life of First Name Pritvy Beejmohun

19 January 2017

First Names Group is looking for the best and brightest school leavers and new graduates. Talented, high-potential individuals with personality and drive, ready to get their 'game face' on and kick-start their career with us. Trust administrator Pritvy Beejmohun works in one of our Private Client teams in Jersey. To give a flavour of what life as a 'First Name' is like, he talks us through his typical working day.

The best thing about working at First Names Group is going into work every day and not knowing what challenging tasks lie ahead; I really enjoy the variety.

When I get to the office, first up is a quick team meeting. We always have an informal catch-up to discuss our priorities for the day ahead. This is a great way to make a rough plan of my working day, manage my time effectively and to be aware of any legislative updates that will impact clients.

I would describe my working style as efficient, and I have this special superpower that allows me to stay controlled under pressure! This is a real bonus when striving to meet the needs of our clients, responding to their specific requirements in a timely manner. I work primarily with property investment clientele, assisting with the day-to-day administration of client portfolios. It’s great, as I find property investment such an exciting area of fiduciary services and I’ve worked on some large transactions.

At lunch time I typically have something to eat at my desk before popping out for a walk to get some fresh air (weather pending!). I used to go for a run or a swim in my lunch break, so my plan is to start this again soon.

The afternoon involves further client work. There are nine people in my team and I am lucky to work with a genuinely great bunch of people. No matter how busy we may be, there’s always room for a bit of banter.

Many First Names throughout the business are currently studying towards exams – myself included. I’m about to start my Institute of Chartered Secretaries (ICSA) professional qualification, with my first exam in November. First Names Group provides study leave to help us get ready, which is extremely helpful as the exams can be quite involved and you do need the time to prepare properly.

For someone considering entering the industry, my best advice to them would be to take every opportunity, grab it with both hands, and make the most of it. First Names Group is committed to helping its people achieve their goals, so there is plenty of opportunity, support and encouragement on offer here.

After leaving the office, I tend to follow my active days with active evenings. I try to do something each night, such as badminton or hockey, but I’ll always make time to turn on the PC and game for a while too – and get my gaming face on!
