The first name in open-mindedness

Peter Unwin is a Client Services Director for First Names Group in Jersey.

With over 20 years in the private client and corporate services arenas, Peter brings his considerable experience to bear in supporting his team of private client experts and ensuring the very best client service. He is responsible for overseeing a range of management activities, in particular the development and enhancement of client relationships, and he regularly has oversight of family wealth and complex cross-border transactions. He has extensive experience in strategic planning for family governance, including succession planning and family constitutions, and is a trusted advisor to a number of families. He moves easily between the strategic and tactical side of the business, communicating clearly and comfortably in his quiet-spoken manner.

When one door is closed don’t you know another is opened.

Starting out in an industry that is all about people, Peter knows what it takes to meet clients’ expectations. Armed with a hospitality business management degree, he worked in a restaurant making it his goal to understand what his customers valued. Following his move to Jersey, the allure of the finance industry made Peter shift fields. Ambitious personal development plans led to seven years in the British Virgin Islands where he gained high profile experience, running a trust company and working with a leading multi-family office. Peter is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA), and a member of the Institute of Directors (IoD).

To Peter, the best thing about the Group’s forward looking nature is that it is challenging, exciting and every day is different. He combines the rational and the emotional in everything he does, balancing the human element with the commercial aspect. Perhaps this is why he has an affinity with Kevin O’Connell who is thoughtful but business minded. Peter also values Ben Newman, saying that he is experienced and supportive, and Jen Le Chevalier who is open and positive.

Lucky enough to have grown up in the BVI, Peter spent his time scuba diving and dreaming about being a marine biologist. This is why Little Bay in Tortola is one of his favourite places on the earth. The other is the Cardiff Millennium Stadium because he is Welsh and passionate about rugby. He has played rugby at school, university and for Jersey and the BVI. But his first love, by a very long way, is his family – his wife and three daughters.
